CHEATER SLICKS Turn 40: Mudhoney, Oblivians, Kid Congo and Chrome Cranks Join a Two-Night Columbus Blowout

Forty years of feedback, and Cheater Slicks are throwing themselves a party loud enough to match.

CS•40, the band’s 40th anniversary celebration, takes over Valley Dale Ballroom in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5.

Friday: Oblivians, Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, Red Aunts, Lavender Flu, and Cheater Slicks.
Saturday: Mudhoney, Chrome Cranks, the Cheater Slicks Big Band, Des Demonas, and Cheap Fix.

The room is part of the story. The band calls Valley Dale “one of the last big band ballrooms left in the U.S.” and says the Velvet Underground played there in 1966 on the Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour. A live recording of that show exists, and it will play in the ballroom Friday night as an invocation before the first band takes the stage.

The Slicks formed in Boston in 1987,  by brothers Tom and Dave Shannon on guitar with drummer Dana Hatch, and moved to Columbus in 1996. Along the way they toured with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and made Don’t Like You, produced by Spencer and reissued by In The Red in 2025. The band planned the weekend with Gene Mullett starting in late winter.

Ticket prices and availability are still to come, most likely through Eventbrite, and the band says a website with details and an FAQ is on the way.
